My First Canvas

Happy Sunday.
I wanted do a little post this morning and show you my first canvas (as an adult). Let me explain. Growing up I spent a lot weekends at my Nanny's house. She would always take me to Kmart and tell me I could have 1 thing. It was so hard to just pick that 1 thing. I started with a "How to draw dogs" book. Then Charcoal pencils, paint brushes, pastels, more books and my stash was created. Nanny is gone now but I have so many wonderful memories about my grandparents.
Back to the present..... My Monday nights consist of dinner early and a "I have my class" to my family. I settle in and head to Ustream to spend a couple of hours with Tracy Weinzapfel. Please join us if you can, Its really fun and she is too crazy! Sooooo. She has her July Creative Dare and I'm posting mine today. My word was "Mother" but I changed it to be about ME (Although I am a Mother too.) and chose "Create".
Kinda of a grungy, graffiti style.

My supplies were Americana acrylic paint, gesso, Prima flowers, Want2Scrap bling, chipboard letters, charcoal pencil (Tracy would be proud), white jeans pocket. :) And....
The Crafter's Workshop mini bricks template. I LOVE their templates.

Everyone who knows me knows I won't wear white pants. It's just me. They would look just like this pocket (filthy) in about 10 minutes.

I laid the template down and slathered on a thick coating of gesso. It dried and began to crack so it turned out to be perfect bricks. I just charcoaled the cracks. It was a surprise to me.

I'll be creating more of these and I must thank Tracy for her inspiration. Please join us on Monday nights!

Oh My Carta Bella

Life got in my way this weekend and well, I was a little down in the dumps to be perfectly honest. I had no inspiration or aspiration to create at all. Blah! So…. I completely forgot to do my give away….. But since this IS CHA week and all the new releases are all over the net, I’ll announce the Winner Winner, Chicken Dinner!

Totally random with my daughter drawing a name out of a hat (well, bowl)! Trisha, over at Easily Amused, Hard to Offend….. You’re the lovely recipient of Carta Bella’s very first release,  Beautiful Moments! I would love to see what you create. Trisha, please send me your address and I’ll get this out to you. I hope you enjoy this as much as I do.
Happy Trails,
Kim

You May Kiss Your Cowgirl

Hi Friends
I was commissioned by my friend Jan to create a vow book for a wedding she is officiating. She is heading to the hills to perform this old time ceremony on horseback so we wanted (of course) a vintage western theme. I can't wait to see the pics of the wedding. They'll be all decked out in their vintage western wear. Can I just say this is what I love to make. I hope they will cherish it.
The leather look material was perfect for this. I originally tried with real leather and it was just too heavy.  I used a lot of Tim Holtz products. You can see the forevermore muse token and swivel clasp in this picture.

I repurposed a book. The book was canvas covered that just so happened to have the word "Love" already on it. Peeled back the material and added a Making Memories metal frame. Added a concho (Tandy Leather) and another button from Tim's collection. Again.... MY favorite concho (love my stars) and I gave it up for love. Time to go shopping.
I layered another concho (recolored with Expresso alcohol ink) with a round piece of  metal and then a clear button from Tim Holz.

I tied up the book with leather and realized when you turned the pages, the leather tore the paper. Dang.... So I added cardstock from Glitz Girls and distressed all the pages with Tim Holtz Tea Dye and denim inks. The pages had to be loose in the book in order to turn easily and I ended up liking the style.
Sharing with ScrapeScene WIP Monday and French Country Cottage. Won't you hop on over and take a peek?
How many times did I say love?
Happy Trails, Thanks for stopping by. Kim

July = Fireworks

Happy July 1st - This is the official day of Summer for me! The BBQs are beginning, fireworks, rodeos, camping and.... ice cold beer. Ya I said it! The funny thing is, I was planning for all that and I woke up this morning and it's cloudy and breezy. Yesterday, It was in the high 90's.
July 1st also begins the New Unique Crafters Challenge. This is my Guest Designer month so please head over and join in. They have a great prize waiting for the winner.  The theme is Patriotic and they were so generous in their kit, I went completely overboard and created a ton.

Another Altered Cigar Box
I love the Folkart look of The Reminisce Paperline
A notebook for all your 4th of July Memories
Party Favors made from paper rolls
Mini Album
Enjoy your Sunday. I'll be crafting in this cloudy weather.
