My First Class

It's another beautiful day in Lincoln. Heading out to the garden to figure out how to get rid of all the snails that are eating my freshly planted veggies. Any ideas? And I was worried about the deer.
I wanted to share some pics of my first class. Boy did I learn alot..... :) Wait a sec, "I" was supposed to be teaching this one. We were making this album from the Teresa Collins Freestyle Line. And Freestyle was definitely the theme for the night.

SO I was all prepared with my lesson plan, had all the extra tools, practiced my intro speech, blah, blah, blah. The class was sold out and I was nervous.  Everyone showed and we got started. I gave out all my little extras and thanked everyone for being my guinea pigs and then that's when I threw the lesson plan out the window.
What I've learned and maybe this will help others just starting to teach classes.
  1.  Everyone creates at a different pace and unless you have a very specific project with pre-cut stuff, you lose your audience and they won't have a good time. AND.... that's what we here for.
  2. Once the basic idea is presented and general instructions are given, let everyone go to town with their own creativity.
  3. Interject tidbits of techniques and help out if you're asked.
  4. Know that you have beginners and experienced crafters all together and give that special attention where needed.
  5. My goodness, the most important thing..... RELAX, that's what everyone else is here for.
Everyone made such unique albums, Here are a few.....

Thanks Marla for helping me set up and thanks to EVERYONE for helping me through my first class.... I hope they all had a good time..... I already have some ideas for next class. ;) ;)
Happy Trails,
Kim

It's a Beautiful Day!

Hi Everyone:

It’s was a beautiful Sunday here in Lincoln. I worked in the yard cleaning out my flowerbeds and getting the garden ready for planting. They say it was 86 but I think it was 105. Remember I’m over 50!!!!! I even put my feet in the pool and it was freezing and felt awesome!
I’ve been crazy busy putting together my class kits so I haven’t had time to create. I’m really excited to start this series and I think everyone will be happy with their personal creation. I don’t want to give it all away because some of my followers are coming to the class. This class is going to be so different for everyone. That’s why I like Teresa Collins Freestyle Line. It can be used for ANY occasion. I chose Kathryn’s Senior pictures for mine:

Check out that sparkly pink leather fringe
I'll share more pages and details as the week winds down. I just love this album because of that darling daughter of mine! :) Have a great week!
Hugs,
Kim

Good Day!

It is raining cats and dogs (I saw them, oh wait, maybe that was the wine) here in sunny California. Our creeks are overflowing and work crews are everywhere with the flooding. Go figure, but remember the saying, “March winds and April showers, bring forth May flowers.” I don’t know about you but my May flowers have been ruined by these April showers.
I have some exciting news….. My very first class I scheduled sold out in 2 days. I didn’t think anyone would sign up. Yay me! I now have a waiting list. I’m so appreciative of everyone and thank you from the bottom of my heart for the support.
I’m holding the class at a local coffee shop called Origin. They are a non-profit shop and their proceeds go to end sex trafficking and slavery. They have a great room in the back for free and all they require is ¾ of your guests buy coffee. I’m buying everyone’s coffee and donating some of my proceeds to the cause. It’s the least I can do.
Then a little bad news, the winner of my WOW embossing powder contest hasn’t claimed her prize yet. If any of you know Cathy please let her know. I sent an email with no response. I’ll give her till this Sunday (Maybe she’s on vacation) to respond and then I’ll draw another name, so stay tuned……
Have a wonderful weekend and THANK YOU ALL again!

Celebrate

Don't forget about my blog candy giveaway here...... WOW...... I'll post the winner on Saturday.
Well, we thought Spring was here in sunny California, but a big storm came in this weekend and we're expected freezing record weather by Thursday. What the heck???
Feeling the Spring, I pulled out my brighter colors and created this birthday card for a friend.

I'm using some Suzy West WOW embossing powder in Opaque Blue Azure and a WOW clear stamp. I loved this stamp. it reminded me of vintage wall paper and when I stamped in on the cardstock, the texture made it look even more like wallpaper.
My mom had this kind of flocked wall paper in RED in our kitchen when I was growing up. I blended in Distress Inks in Wild Honey and Rusty Hinge to give it a weathered looked and  really liked it with the blue.
If you click the pic, you'll be able to see how nice the embossing powder creates the texture. I also used my Want2Scrap bling. Did you know you can change the color of the bling with distress inks and alcohol inks? The celebrate word came from Teresa Collins' Giving Thanks line. I love those transparencies!
This is the inside of the card and you can see where I just ran my distress ink over the clear stones and made it coppery. Likin' that look.
I'm hooking up with Sugar Creek Hollow's Challenge and Cowgirl Up Challenge this week.
